Boreal Screendance Festival

Boreal is an international videodance festival established in November 2020 in Mjólkurbúðin Gallery, Akureyri. The project promotes collaboration between countries with the main objectives of spreading and sharing videodance in Iceland. Since its inception, Boreal has branched out to other venues in the city, including the Akureyri Art Museum.

Boreal Screendace Festival was founded in 2020 as an alternative approach to a traditional dance festival.Creating the project was a bold and spontaneous move as well as a beautiful way to create an international network in dance arts unprecedented to Iceland’s northern capital of Akureyri.

Boreal initially showcased pieces mainly from Mexico and Iceland. Nevertheless, as time went on, we were fortunate to showcase art from 80 artists coming from 17 different countries.

Boreal strives to spread screen dance and experimental video art in northern Iceland with the aim to inspire new audiences and future generations through the fascinating blend of dance and multimedia
